Albany Helping Hands is located at 619 Ninth Avenue SE in Albany, Oregon. We are a homeless shelter and are sponsored by the contributions of churches, individuals, and businesses. In addition to providing food, shelter, and clothing, we provide counseling, housing search, transitional job program, mental health referral, and furniture for the needy families in our local area.

Pastor Les Bailey found that homeless people seemed to gravitate toward him. For fourteen years, he ran a shelter from Oak Hill Community Church of God where he is a pastor. In 1998, the shelter separated from the church and became a 501 ( c )3 non-profit, faith-based organization. They moved to a temporary location for several years until purchasing their own building at 619 Ninth Avenue SE. Many improvements and additions have been made to expand the capacity and capability of this shelter. As of late 2010, we have purchased a house to launch our transitional housing program. We have also started transitional job programs that will enable our guests to reenter the work force and become contributing members of our community.

Albany Helping Hands provides 24 hour/7 days per week emergency shelter and services for an average of 110 homeless people every day of the year. We provide more than 51,000 meals to homeless and low income people every year. We deliver support services to an average of 400 residents each year as they seek to move toward transitional and independent homes.

Kindness is an inner desire that makes us want to do good things even if we do not get anything in return. It is the joy of our life to do them. When we do good things from this inner desire, there is kindness in everything we think, say, want, and do. - Emanuel Swedenborg
